February 21 2003 Glasgow Engineering were asked to undertake a very interesting conversion of an old Thunderbird Cable Logger on wheels to a tracked version. The original TMY 40, was to be converted into a TTY 50 type machine for Blue Tier Logging. This project involved the extension of the mast from 40 feet to 50 feet with all welds being tested and passed by ultrasonic testing. The steering cabin was removed along with all the under chassis drive and steering components. The machine was then mounted on an old excavator track frame, new hydraulics were installed for the drive and steer, with the whole job taking three months to complete.
